Karnak Temple

Karnak is not a single temple but an immense complex added to by pharaoh after pharaoh over more than two millennia. Its heart is the precinct of Amun-Ra, entered along an avenue of ram-headed sphinxes.

The Great Hypostyle Hall, with its 134 columns towering overhead, is one of the most breathtaking spaces in the ancient world. Obelisks, a sacred lake and a series of massive pylons complete a site that rewards slow exploration.
