Valley of the Kings & Hatshepsut Temple Tour
A focused West Bank morning: the painted tombs of the pharaohs, Hatshepsut's terraced temple, and the Colossi of Memnon.

For nearly five hundred years, the pharaohs of the New Kingdom were buried in this remote valley on the West Bank of the Nile. Hidden away to deter tomb robbers, more than sixty tombs were cut into the rock and decorated with vivid scenes to guide the king into the afterlife.
Today a rotating selection of tombs is open to visitors. Standard tickets include three tombs, while famous ones such as Tutankhamun and Seti I require separate tickets. A guide brings the painted walls to life, explaining the funerary texts and the astonishing survival of their color.

The valley was in use from around 1539 to 1075 BCE. The discovery of Tutankhamun's near-intact tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 turned the site into one of the most famous archaeological locations on earth.
